…And the battle for the Roger Willen Shield has come down to this moment… the 7th and final Fistivus for the year… Fistivus XXII!
With Fist Club holding a strong 7 point lead over 2015 Champions South Melbourne Fistball Club, they will be looking to secure their first VFL Championship with a top 2 finish at the final tournament of the year and avoid a repeat of last year’s thrilling finale.
Despite a strong start to the season, the Bay City Fisters will need a few results to go their way to have a legitimate chance at the title, while theFistroy Lions will have to be content with simply another competitive output in 2016. Regardless, both teams are expected to make life very tough for Fist Club and the Green Demons, and will take great joy in shaking up the final standings.
While the battle for the Roger Willen Shield will garner the bulk of the interest on the day, the fight to avoid the Wooden Spoon may prove to be even more exciting; with Das Fist FC, Westside Wombats Fistball Club andFistStorm all separated by just a single championship point (and percentage) going into the final round… and all hotly keen to avoid the “honour” of the spoon.
In addition, will we also see the launch of a new team in the Mutt Fisters? Will Sydney Fistball Club make the trip down? It could end up being the biggest Fistivus yet!
And of course, this will be your first chance to welcome back our triumphant World Cup bronze-medal winning team – South Melbourne – from South Africa, and our Women’s World Championship gold-medal (we’re presuming) winning team – The Possums!
Fist-off is currently expected to be at 11.30am, but a full schedule will be released closer to the date once teams are confirmed. We will be returning to the unofficial home of fistball – Allan Bain Reserve in Richmond – and beers & BBQ will be provided at this-can’t-possibly-be-profitable prices.
