Fist Club have made short work of The Fist & The Furious in the final of Fistivus XIII, going back-to-back-to-back and completing a historic threepeat of PNTs!
After going down 14-15 against arch-rivals the Fistroy Lions in the first game of the day, they regained their composure to win every following game all the way to the Final against The Fist & The Furious. After battling out a close encounter earlier in the day, the short-handed F&F quickly succumbed to a firing Fist Club; going down in straight sets – 11-4, 11-4. The Fistroy Lions again struggled in the latter part of the tournament, losing only their final game of the pool rounds to Punt Road Plate rivals the F&F to miss out on the final on percentage. Bay City Fisters improved on their efforts this year to finish in 4th, showing glimpses of what they can achieve with a firing squad, but ultimately inconsistency and basic errors became their undoing. An under-strength Westside Wombats combined with 2 Das Fist players to form a hybrid team, and the lack of chemistry showed as the team lost all 4 matchups and took home the Lanterne Rouge (or at least they would’ve if the trophy had been in attendance).
The final placings and points for the day were as follows:
1. Fist Club (14 points)
2. The Fist & The Furious (10 points)
3. The Fistroy Lions (7 points)
4. Bay City Fisters (5 points)
5. Westside Wombats (4 points)
Das Fist received 2 ‘special consideration’ points for the 2 players that attended, despite their team’s forfeit.
Not content with simply taking home the PNT for a third-straight time, Fist Club captain Bryce Griesheimer also took home the B&F Trophy for his impressive effort and unwavering consistency.
Fist Club have now jumped up to the top of the standings, 4 points ahead of Fistroy Lions and 11 ahead of The Fist & The Furious. Normality has also been restored at the basement of the standings, with Das Fist swapping places with the Bay City Fisters to reside in last place. The Wombats remain in 5th place.
With only two Fistivi left in the 2015 F-League season, it’s becoming apparent that three teams will likely be battling it out for the Roger Willen Shield – Fist Club, Fistroy Lions & The Fist & The Furious. With the next tournament not taking place until October, all three teams will have sufficient time to plan their strategy for 2015 victory.
