Inaugural Australian Fistball Championships success

Congratulations to our inaugural Australian Fistball Championship winners – Fist Club (Men’s) and Bay City Fisters (Women’s)!

Fist Club had to battle through a 5 set thriller against the Bay City Fisters men’s team in the final, winning the final 2 sets to clinch the Championship victory and help atone for their tight loss in the Roger Willen Shield just weeks earlier. Bay City were hoping to complete the Championship sweep, but despite a strong performance, ultimately fell short.

The Mutt Fisters claimed 3rd place, after overcoming a plucky Fistroy Lions outfit in 3 sets. A depleted South Melbourne Fistball Club, missing 2 integral players from their standard lineup, could only manage 5th place, relegating FistStorm into 6th. Westside Wombats Fistball Club and Das Fist FC finished 7th & 8th respectively.

The Bay CIty Fisters women’s team completed a fairytale comeback, winning their preliminary final and grand final consecutively after going winless in the round robin stage. Westside Wombats battled hard, but ultimately had to settle for 2nd place, while Das Fist (or Das FistStorm) finished in 3rd.
Fist Club & Bay City Fisters, both having nominated for the IFA Fistball World Tour, will receive top World Tour points for their respectively Championships.

Perennial Best & Fistest winner, and all-round man of the people, Carl ‘Carlossus’ Creasey claimed another B&F award in the men’s division, while Wombats captain Jess ‘Lyonheart’ Lyon claimed the B&F medal in the women’s division.

And so ends our official 2017 tournament schedule!

Thank you to everyone who came out and contributed to the day – 11 teams is a new record for the Fistball Federation of Australia, and we appreciate the effort of all those involved in making it a successful day. Thanks of course to the East Belmont Saints Baseball Club for once again being fantastic hosts.

Fist on!
